Emergence Software and Codesion Merge; New VP of Products & Services

Greetings!  My name is Willie Wang, and I have been the new VP of Products and Services at Codesion for about a month now. It is a very exciting time to be part of this company.

Emergence Software- Executable Best Practices

Prior to Codesion, I was the Founder and CEO of Emergence Software, which was a strategic partner with Codesion. Through several months of conversation and discussion with Jason Seed (CEO of Codesion), we decided to merge Emergence into Codesion. You can see my photo and bio at the EngineYard Rails Roadshow, where I am speaking next month in Boston.

The mission of Emergence Software is to simplify deployment and configuration of Open Source software. Let’s say you wanted to install Open Source software, such as Apache. You would typically go to Google, search for the installation guide, and then read a wiki page to learn how to do it.

But what if instead of getting a wiki page describing the best practice on how to set up the software, you actually found a way to execute the best practice?  This concept, “executable best practice” whether in installing or configuring a software, is what Emergence Software is all about.

Codesion-Emergence Synergies

Emergence Software lets the user create and run an executable best practice by creating a “recipe” on your Desktop, Internal Server, Hosted Server, or Cloud Server. How is this a strategic fit with Codesion?  We see two clear benefits:

  • Better ALM Services. With Codesion, the leader in On-Demand SCM, customers store and version their source code securely, reliably, and cost effectively in the cloud. With Emergence, users can generate and share custom recipes to very quickly deploy their code to a multitude of different environments (development, demo, test, staging, production).
  • Optimized service delivery. As Codesion expands our service offerings, we receive many requests from customers needing for specific configurations and  task automation of their software instances. For these ad hoc, one-off requests, how does Codesion provide a common, scalable, secure platform for delivering personalized services?  Emergence can solve this problem by applying recipes to the customer’s instance. Customers can run these recipes via a easy web interface, and even schedule their frequency.

Fine-Tuning the Development Machine

At Codesion, we are focused on building the best Source Control Management Service for Enterprise. I am implementing high-performance development / Agile methodologies that I’ve honed over the past 15 years while running engineering teams in companies such as Oracle, BEA, Plumtree Software, and GE.

Now that we have released our flexible FrogSAFE Platform and API, will be adding many new capabilities and features. These include deployment and Open Source tools that help developers and collaborators focus on core development without worrying about complexity and manageability of their development infrastructure.

I am excited to join the executive management team to realize our vision of providing the best On-Demand Enterprise SCM Platform for delivering best-in-class Open Source to global development teams and companies.  I look forward to interacting with many of you in the near future.

Kind regards,
Willie Wang, VP Products & Services
