November Reflections from CEO Flint Brenton

It’s that time of year when we reflect on what we have to be thankful for. This year has flown by and for CollabNet VersionOne, it’s been a whirlwind of exciting activity. Last year at this time, we had just announced our merger with VersionOne, the leader in Agile management software. I remember the excitement, the synergy and the promise of change that our team was feeling around last year’s holidays. It was an incredible match and the beginning of a lot of hard work to make this integration a powerful win for our customers and a catalyst for never-before-seen …

What You Missed at #Agile2018

I’ve just returned from Agile 2018 in sunny San Diego and wow, what a fantastic week it was! CollabNet VersionOne made a number of big announcements, hosted THE party of the week — a luau at Roy’s on the water — in appreciation of our customers and partners, and set up a Q&A lunch panel with some of our executives and Dean Leffingwell from Scaled Agile. CollabNet VersionOne was one of Agile 2018’s Title Sponsors and we really took the spotlight in the exhibit hall with our value stream adventure camp where we gave away camp gear like warm socks, …

Three Pillars of DevOps Success in 2018

I love the beginning of the year. It is always enjoyable to see people’s predictions for trends in the coming year. Publications like Fortune, CNN Money, Washington Post and the Atlantic speculate about what gadgets and technologies are going to take off in popularity this year, psychics predict which celebrities will have babies and fall in love, and I start to think about trends like DevOps and where the software delivery industry is headed next.CollabNet, Eric Robertson, predicted in an I went back and looked at some DevOps predictions from last year around the same time. I had given a …

Waterfall Development – Is it Right for You?

Don’t go chasing waterfall … development, that is. According to a recent post by Madison Moore on Medium featuring insights from several software delivery industry leaders, waterfall is – while still popular – not the best way to win in the marketplace. With methodologies like Agile, DevOps and Continuous Delivery becoming ever more prominent over the past 15 years or so, waterfall is old news. Or, is it? Moore cites a recent study by Gartner: “According to Gartner’s IT Key Metrics Data report, the waterfall method as employed on 56% of development efforts in 2015, with iterative methods used in …

Waterfall Still Going Strong – But is it Time for a Hybrid Approach?

The nature of the technology business is forward-thinking. It focuses on the future and what’s coming next. Innovations and creativity in our world of software development strive to improve the status quo and increase customer satisfaction through speed and increased connectivity. Yet, while it’s exciting to see enterprises embrace new ways of thinking and advance their processes with cutting edge technology, it rarely happens rapidly or even simultaneously across all industries. For most organizations, the adoption of new technologies is a slow process and the larger they are and the longer they’ve been around, the more time it takes to …

CollabNet and VersionOne: Building Value at Enterprise Scale

This month has been more than exciting thanks to our recent merger with VersionOne. I am privileged to lead a great team at the newly expanded CollabNet. Talking DevOps Culture, Process and Security with Ian Murphy from Enterprise Times

CollabNet had the pleasure of welcoming Ian Murphy from Enterprise Times to our offices earlier this year for a chat about DevOps. We sat down together and discussed how businesses are creating software today, and how they are organizing teams to deliver the most value to customers. Ian had excellent questions for me about the maturity of the DevOps market and automation of processes, trends in organizational structure and the importance of security in software development—among many other topics. While many organizations are getting by with traditional siloed development methods, the potential that comes with adapting processes and teams using …

BizDevOps: Here’s How to Make It Happen in Your Organization

I recently had a conversation with Jennifer Lent from TechTarget. She’s a respected thinker in our field and covers major trends. We spoke about the emergence of BizDevOps and its implications for businesses. We tackled a number of topics. She wrote about our conversation in a recent article, “BizDevOps: Here’s how to make it happen in your organization.” Since our conversation, I’ve been thinking more about BizDevOps, its challenges, and what makes the BizDevOps pipeline flow. Peter Drucker made the prescient statement that “Culture eats strategy for breakfast.” This applies to BizDevOps – changing tech is not hard, but changing …
